The Fall weather is here in New Hampshire!
As the weather cools it is extremely important to make sure you and your Audi or Volkswagen is ready for the colder temperatures. The New England climate can be extreme. It is known to be unpredictable, from very hot to extremely cold. This swing in temperature and change in seasons can put a lot of stress on your car and the parts that keep it going. This is why it is critical to stay on top of your scheduled maintenance not only now but throughout the entire year.
What Should I Have Checked?
Air filters
Remember this past Spring? All that pollen that was all over everyone’s cars? It basically turns it green. Well, that pollen gets trapped in your vehicle’s air filter, which filters air into the engine and can become clogged. The pollen also gets stuck in your cabin air filter, which filters the air you are breathing inside of the car. These two filters should be changed every year or 20k miles.
Coolant/Antifreeze
The fluid that is used to cool engine has a freezing point because it is made up of mostly water. We can test the freezing point to ensure your vehicles antifreeze levels are within specification. This is especially important when going into the colder season.
Engine oil
Not all synthetic oils are created equal. Your Audi or VW requires a specific grade and specification of synthetic oil. Using the incorrect oil can lead to premature engine wear and costly repairs down the road. Using too heavy of a weight of oil in the winter can cause the oil too become too thick leading to engine issues.
Battery
As your car’s battery ages it may become sensitive to the cold weather and may not want to start. The last thing we want is for our customers to have to deal with a dead battery! Typically we recommend replacing your vehicles battery every 5 years. Like with all replacement parts on Audi and VW… brands and quality count with this one!
Washer Fluid
Something so simple! If you have some in your car that is left over for the summer…chances are it may freeze in the winter! Let us top you off for free with our bellow freezing grade. (Quick Tip: DO NOT USE ORANGE RAIN-X washer fluid. It’s known to ruin the washer level sensor.)
Wiper Blades
Your vehicles wiper blades should completely clear the glass with each swipe. Blades should be replaced if there are any streaks left behind. Any streaks in the winter will freeze and cause buildup on the windshield. We stock most Audi and Volkswagen specialty wiper blades!
Emergency Road Kit
It is always a good idea to carry a few items in your car at all times year round, but especially during the winter moths. Some items to keep: External battery charger for your cell phone, water, non perishable food, blankets, hats, gloves, jumper cables, flares/triangle, snow shovel, ice scraper cat litter/sand for traction, and a first aid kit.
At Reflex Tuning, we want to help you stay safe on the road.
