Lisa’s Q7 looked great on the outside, but I could feel something on the test drive. The acceleration wasn’t as crisp as it should be. That’s a telltale sign on these 3.0T motors — the spark plugs were due.
Worn Spark Plugs at 35K Miles — Common on 3.0T Audi Engines
Here’s the thing about these 3.0L turbo Audi engines — they chew through spark plugs faster than you’d think. A lot of people assume spark plugs last 60k, 80k, even 100k miles. Not on these. We recommend 35k miles or sooner, and these had right about 35k on them since the last set.
After we swapped them out, the difference was night and day. Smoother acceleration, more power, just a completely different driving experience. If your Q7 or A6 feels a little sluggish, worn spark plugs could be the culprit. Left too long, you can end up with misfires and a check engine light — so it’s worth staying on top of.
Engine and Cabin Air Filters — Overdue by Mileage
We also replaced both the engine air filter and the cabin air filter. These are due every 20k miles or about 18 months, and they were overdue by mileage. Your engine air filter affects how efficiently the motor breathes — a clogged one can rob you of power and fuel economy. The cabin filter is what cleans the air coming through your vents. If you’re driving around Manchester or Concord in the summer with the AC on, that filter matters more than people realize.
