Check Engine Light Diagnostics

That light means something — and we'll tell you exactly what. Full computer diagnostics, code reading, and root cause analysis with a detailed report and photos. No guessing, no parts-swapping, no clearing codes and hoping for the best.

How It Works

More Than Just Reading a Code

A code tells us where to start — not what's wrong. We trace the problem to its root cause so you're not paying to replace parts that aren't broken. Every diagnosis comes with photos, a clear explanation, and honest recommendations.

Check engine light diagnostics at Reflex Automotive

OEM-Level Scan Tools

Factory-grade diagnostics for Audi, VW, and all makes. We read manufacturer-specific codes that generic scanners miss — the difference between guessing and knowing.

Root Cause Analysis

We don't just read the code and swap parts. We test, measure, and trace the problem to its source — whether it's a sensor, vacuum leak, wiring issue, or mechanical failure.

Digital Report with Photos

You get a full report showing exactly what we found — photos, measurements, and a clear explanation. You'll understand the problem before we recommend any repairs.

3-Year / 36,000-Mile Warranty

Every repair is backed by our warranty. If we diagnose it and fix it, we stand behind the work.

Common Triggers
What Can Cause a Check Engine Light

Oxygen sensors, catalytic converter efficiency, mass airflow sensor, EVAP system leaks, ignition coils, spark plugs, fuel injectors, turbo underboost, EGR valve — the list is long. That's why diagnosis matters more than code reading.

I was very impressed with the inspection report i received, it was very in depth and made the diagnosis very easy to understand as someone who is mechanics illiterate. it even had pictures! Heather and her team were very helpful in diagnosing a laundry list of issues with the GTI that I had recently purchased. Heather was very kind and helpful in guiding me in the right direction of what to do moving forward. Thank you Reflex!!

FAQ

Check Engine Light Questions, Answered

You can, but the codes don't tell the whole story. A code points to a system or circuit -- not a specific failed part. On top of that, generic code readers from parts stores often miss manufacturer-specific codes that our factory Audi and VW scan tools pick up. You could have three codes stored and a generic reader only shows one. We recommend a proper diagnostic so you know exactly what you're dealing with before spending money.
Diagnostic evaluation starts at $179. That covers the initial assessment with factory-level scan tools. Until we see the car and pull data with our equipment, there is no honest way to predict the total repair cost. Generic code readers give you a symptom, not the problem. An oxygen sensor fault code could be a bad wire, a mouse-chewed harness, a misfire burning too much fuel, a clogged catalytic converter, or an exhaust leak between sensors. We use factory Audi and VW diagnostic tools that pull more fault codes and live data than generic readers — that is how you find the actual cause. Call us at (603) 207-4004 and we can talk through your symptoms.
A steady check engine light means something needs attention but is not an immediate emergency — a failing oxygen sensor, an EVAP leak, or a catalytic converter efficiency code are common examples. A flashing check engine light is urgent. It means active misfires are occurring and unburned fuel is reaching your catalytic converter, which can cause permanent and expensive damage. If your check engine light is flashing, pull over when safe and call us at (603) 207-4004.
On Audi and VW models, the most common check engine light triggers we see are ignition coil failures, carbon buildup on direct-injection engines like the 2.0T TSI and TFSI, PCV valve failures on the A4 and Q5, EVAP system leaks, and oxygen sensor faults. The 2.0T engine in particular is prone to carbon buildup after 50,000 miles, which causes misfires and rough idle. We use factory-level Audi and VW scan tools that read manufacturer-specific codes a generic reader will miss.
You do not need to. We use the same factory-level diagnostic tools the dealer uses for Audi and VW, and our technicians have nearly two decades of experience with these platforms. The difference is we back repairs with a 3-year, 36,000-mile warranty — triple what the dealer offers — include a free loaner car, and send you a digital inspection report with photos of exactly what we found.
It depends. A steady light usually means something needs attention soon but isn't an emergency. A flashing check engine light means stop driving -- it typically indicates a misfire that can damage your catalytic converter. Either way, get it diagnosed sooner rather than later. Schedule a diagnostic or call (603) 207-4004.
No -- clearing a code without fixing the problem just delays the inevitable. The light will come back, and in some cases the underlying issue gets worse. We find and fix the root cause.
Yes -- a free loaner car is included with every service visit, including diagnostics. Drop off your car and take one of ours.
