2022 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport – Pre-Purchase Inspection & Baseline Service
We recently had a customer buy a 2022 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport from Merchant’s Auto.
We performed a full pre-purchase inspection before they finalized the deal, and honestly, the vehicle was in great shape considering it had 90,000 miles and very few documented service records.
Once the customer purchased the Atlas, we brought all the maintenance up to date and handled several preventative items to make sure they’re starting with a clean slate.
The following are our recommended intervals for specifically the 3.6L VW Engine, but also apply to most vehicles.
Engine & Cabin Air Filters
We replaced both the engine air filter and cabin air filter. These should be done
every 20,000 miles or once a year.
Spark Plugs & Ignition Coils
We replaced all spark plugs and ignition coils. On these VR6 engines:
- Spark plugs should be replaced every 35,000 miles
- Ignition coils should be replaced every 75,000 miles or 5 years
Brake Fluid Flush
The brake fluid was flushed and replaced. Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, so it should be changed
every 2 years to protect the ABS system and maintain proper braking performance.
Automatic Transmission Service
We performed a complete transmission service, including both the fluid and the filter. These should be done
every 50,000 miles to help extend the life of the transmission and prevent slipping or delayed shifting.
Haldex All-Wheel Drive Service
The Atlas uses a Haldex AWD system that contains two separate fluids. These should be replaced every
35,000–40,000 miles. Most dealerships only replace the Haldex fluid, unless you specifically request both.
Tire Balance & Alignment
We performed a full tire balance and a four-wheel alignment. These should be done every 15,000 miles or once a year to prevent uneven wear, vibration, and premature tire replacement.
Drive Belt & Tensioner
The drive belt and tensioner were replaced. This service is due every 8 years or 90,000 miles. The belt runs major components like the alternator and water pump, so replacing it on time prevents breakdowns.
Full Undercoating Service
We performed a full undercoating using NH Oil Undercoating’s hybrid formula.
This is a semi-permanent coating designed to protect the chassis from New Hampshire rust and corrosion.
For proper coverage, we remove:
- Fender liners
- Exhaust shielding
- Underbody floor shields
This ensures every vulnerable metal surface is protected.
New Key Programming
Most used vehicles come with only one key, so we programmed a brand-new factory key for the customer.
During the process, we also clear out any previously programmed keys for added security.
Interior Accessories
We installed new factory VW floor mats, a matching rear cargo mat, and durable seat covers.
The customer has a couple of dogs, so this setup was perfect — great fitment and easy to clean.
Thinking About Buying a Used Vehicle?
Keep in mind that preventative maintenance doesn’t always show up on a Carfax report.
A vehicle may look great on paper but still be overdue for several important services.
A little bit of upfront maintenance can make a huge difference in keeping your new-to-you vehicle
reliable for years to come.
