Carbon Cleaning & Walnut Blasting

Direct-injection engines build up carbon on the intake valves over time — causing rough idle, misfires, and power loss. We remove it with walnut blasting media, restoring airflow and performance without damaging your engine.

How It Works

Walnut Blasting — The Right Way to Clean Intake Valves

Unlike chemical cleaners that can't reach heavy buildup, walnut shell media physically blasts carbon deposits off intake valves and ports. It's the same method dealerships use — and the only one that actually works on severely clogged valves.

Walnut Shell Media Blasting

Crushed walnut shells are blasted through the intake ports at controlled pressure. The media removes carbon without scratching or damaging aluminum valve surfaces — aggressive enough to clean, gentle enough to protect.

Before & After Documentation

We photograph your intake valves before and after cleaning so you can see exactly what we removed. The difference is dramatic — and you'll feel it in how the car drives.

Restored Performance

Carbon-clogged valves restrict airflow and disrupt the fuel-air mixture. After cleaning, you'll notice smoother idle, better throttle response, improved fuel economy, and the power your engine was designed to deliver.

Why Direct Injection
Why Your Audi or VW Needs Carbon Cleaning

Port-injected engines spray fuel over the intake valves, keeping them clean. Direct-injection engines — which includes nearly every modern Audi and VW — inject fuel directly into the combustion chamber. Nothing cleans the valves. Carbon from crankcase ventilation accumulates over time, and by 60,000-80,000 miles, the buildup can cause noticeable drivability problems. Regular oil changes help slow the process, but walnut blasting is the only real solution once buildup occurs.

I was very impressed with the inspection report i received, it was very in depth and made the diagnosis very easy to understand as someone who is mechanics illiterate. it even had pictures! Heather and her team were very helpful in diagnosing a laundry list of issues with the GTI that I had recently purchased. FAQ

Carbon Cleaning Questions, Answered

Common symptoms include rough idle, hesitation on acceleration, misfires (especially on cold starts), reduced power, and poor fuel economy. If your direct-injection Audi or VW has over 50,000 miles and you're experiencing any of these, carbon buildup is a likely cause. We can inspect with a borescope to confirm before recommending the service. Schedule an inspection or call us at (603) 207-4004.
Walnut blasting uses finely crushed walnut shell media propelled through the intake ports to physically remove carbon deposits from the intake valves. The walnut shells are hard enough to break apart carbon but soft enough not to damage the aluminum valve surfaces. It's the most effective method available — chemical cleaners can't match the results on heavy buildup.
Plan for a full day. The intake manifold needs to be removed to access the valves, the blasting process takes time to do thoroughly, and everything needs to be carefully reassembled and tested. We provide a free loaner car so your day isn't affected.
Any direct-injection engine can develop carbon buildup, but it's especially common on Audi and VW 2.0T (TSI/TFSI) and 3.0T engines. These engines route fuel directly into the combustion chamber rather than across the intake valves, so nothing washes the valves clean during normal operation. If your Audi or VW is direct-injection -- which most models from 2008 onward are -- it's a matter of when, not if.
You can slow it down but not prevent it entirely. Regular oil changes with quality oil reduce crankcase vapors, and some owners add catch cans to intercept oil mist before it reaches the intake. But eventually, walnut blasting is the only way to fully clean the valves.
No. Most dealers don't offer walnut blasting at all. The factory repair procedure calls for manually scrubbing each valve by hand with a chemical solution -- a slower process that doesn't clean as thoroughly. Walnut blasting removes significantly more buildup because the media reaches the entire valve surface under pressure. We also document the process with before and after photos, include a free loaner car, and back the work with our 3-year/36,000-mile warranty.
We perform walnut blasting on Audi and Volkswagen direct-injection engines. Each engine platform requires specific intake adapters and tooling to do the job properly, and we've invested in the equipment for the Audi and VW lineup -- 2.0T TSI/TFSI, 3.0T, and other direct-injection variants.
